Reviewing Mario Badescu Cleansing Milk with Carnation & Rice Oil, Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater, and Glycolic Foaming Cleanser
Mario Badescu is by far one of my absolute favorite brands for skin care, and I know that’s a sentiment a lot of people share with me. With its high-end quality and affordable price tag, this line of products gives serious results without having to break the bank.
I was first introduced to Mario Badescu by a beauty advisor in an ULTA back home. I had just heard of the oil cleanser trend and how using oil on your face was becoming a more widespread practice. Being someone who has dealt with oily skin and shiny face before, I was curious if oil cleansers and other oil-based face products were right for me. I asked the sales girl to point me in the direction of a good oil-based cleanser that wasn’t too expensive. She recommended the Mario Badescu Cleansing Milk and I’ve been smitten with the brand ever since (and the Cleansing Milk remains a very close second for my top favorite oil cleanser to this day!).
I have three products specifically that I keep lined up in my bathroom closet. These are instant classics that I love, and that I will keep in constant rotation for the foreseeable future. They are just that good! Read on and see if any of these Mario Badescu products catch your eye.
Cleansing Milk with Carnation and Rice Oil (6 oz. $12 ulta.com)
The aforementioned oil cleanser that first got me hooked on the Mario Badescu products; this cleanser has a scrumptious sounding name and a wonderful, silky feel to it. Anyone who has been thinking about trying oil cleansers and skin care products should start here first. The cleanser definitely has an oily feel to it, but it washes off easily, (the directions instruct you to wipe it off with a damp cloth rather than rinse it), and after it is gone, it leaves your skin feeling surprisingly clean and very soft. You won’t get that tight, tugging feeling in your skin after you’re done washing with this. It is definitely moisturizing, which is one of the biggest reasons why I love oil cleansers. Plus, I just feel like it magnetizes the bad oil I have clogging my pores and sucks it out. Not sure if it actually does this, but I always feel fresh and clean after using this. It doesn’t really have much of a fragrance, it kinda has a mild clay scent to it (that’s the best way I can describe it) but it isn’t bad at all! Definitely good for people who don’t like super smelly products or who are sensitive. Everything about this cleanser is mild but extremely effective.
Rating: I only have a couple other oil cleansers to compare it to (one of them being my top favorite) so I’ll go ahead and give this a 9.8/10
Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater (8 oz. $12 ulta.com)
I finally had to buy this after seeing it everywhere. This humble little facial spray has garnered a cult following everywhere, and with good reason. I was reading about the benefits of incorporating rosewater in to your skin care routine, and had already gone through most of a large bottle of Reviva Labs Rosewater Facial Spray (which I liked, and it lasted like over 6 months, even though I used it night and day!) when I finally decided to pick this up. I could hardly wait to try it, but I exercised self-control and waited ‘til I finished my first bottle. After the first spritz, I knew I had a winner on my hands. Firstly, it emits a fine mist, which is more pleasant and better to use than a full-on spray blast to the face. It has a delightful rose scent, and immediately coats your face in hydration that sinks in fast. I love using it night and day—day time after my shower and before my moisturizer, nighttime after toning and before essence. This is a keeper and a must-have! Not only that, but while writing this and searching for the exact price, I discovered that there is a new(ish? I’m not sure when this came out but I’m just now seeing it!) Facial Spray on the market—Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Cucumber and Green Tea. I can’t wait to try that one, as well! It sounds heavenly.
Rating: I’ve only tried one other rosewater facial spray, but judging by how much I like it now, and how popular it is, I think it’s safe to say that this is a great one! 10/10
Glycolic Foaming Cleanser (6 oz. $16 ulta.com)
This is also a relatively new try for me. I’ve been using this for a few months and I am highly satisfied with the results. This is an exfoliating wash that helps you achieve smooth, radiant skin. I can attest that it does just that. I use it a couple of times a week when I don’t feel like using a scrub or breaking out the microdermabrasion kit. It has a fairly strong chemical smell as well as a slightly stinging feel, but none of it is overbearing or unpleasant at all. To me, that just means it’s working. And it does! My skin always feels baby-soft whenever I use it. Definitely would recommend this. Luckily while working at ULTA, I got three small sizes for free! I haven’t even finished the first one yet! Talk about a good deal. But I will definitely buy a full size once my trial sizes run out.
Rating: The product itself is wonderful, but it isn’t my favorite way to exfoliate. That’s no fault of the glycolic cleanser, it’s just my personal preference. I will say that this is a solid 9.2/10 only because of the chemical stinging feel, which is to be expected but still I’d prefer to not have it as much. I can hardly rub it into my face for more than a minute before I just have to wash it off. Other than that, it would have a perfect score just for the after effects alone.
There you have it, my personal little review of three of my favorite Mario Badescu products! What do you think of these products? Have you ever tried these specifically, or others? Let me know your thoughts in the comments, I’d love to hear from you!
